Why It Matters
Portugal is a country deeply connected to water. Our economy, identity, and everyday life are shaped by the ocean. But that same ocean is now burdened by plastic pollution.
By acting locally while being part of a global network, End Plastic Soup empowers communities to take responsibility — not just by cleaning, but by changing habits, educating future generations, and inspiring civic action.
The 6 Rs – complete
In Portugal, End Plastic Soup is being carried forward by Rotary Atlantico and an increasing number of Rotary clubs across the country.
Under the banner of End Plastic Soup, local volunteers, schools, and municipalities are coming together to:
- Host cleanups along coastlines, rivers, and public areas
- Run workshops in schools and youth groups
- Engage the public in campaigns like Awareness Ocean Week
- Represent Portugal in the international End Plastic Soup network
This local chapter serves as a connector, facilitator, and ambassador for the broader mission — making it relevant and actionable in the Portuguese context.
